Would you like to be the first to hear about new litters, availability, and helpful pet advice?
As a preservation breeder of the Coton de Tulear, we prioritize genetic diversity so that we can pass on healthy puppies to our Chapala Bay puppy families. We take great pride in producing quality healthy puppies based on the principals of ethics, morals, integrity and continuous education. Our goal is for you to have your coton for as long as possible with the best quality of life and health-span.
Our dogs are full members of our family and are are raised with the utmost of tender, loving care. We pride ourselves on raising happy puppies.
We perform all the recommended health testing as per the Canadian Coton de Tulear Club, in order to help make the best informed decisions when planning litters.
As such, we are a Code of Ethics Breeder with the Canadian Coton de Tulear Club. We also belong to the CFC (Canine Federation of Canada) and CKC (Canadian Kennel Club).
We do health (OFA) and genetic testing (utilizing both Embark and Gensol to ensure a complete panel of testing for genetic diseases that are currently known for the Coton de Tulear) on our breeding dogs prior to breeding to ensure our dogs are the very best for breeding. We do not inbreed (What is COI). A breeder can do all the health testing they want but if the result is puppies that have a COI (Coefficient if Inbreeding) close to 5% or higher on a pedigree, that dog will have a reduced lifespan and impaired health and ultimately leads to inbreeding depression which impacts the Coton de Tulear as a breed. As such, we genetically test our dogs using Embark to get the Actual COI so we can present to you the healthiest dogs. Our goal is for you to have your dog live a long life with quality of life. We register our dogs with the CFC in a timely manner. We actively subscribe to preserving the breed which means we acknowledge our responsibility to the gene pool of the Coton de Tulear in its entirety, not just to our kennel.
Our goal is to raise happy, healthy, well adjusted pups, in order to provide our adopters with wonderful companions. We focus on temperament and socialization. Visit our Puppy Page to find out details about how to adopt a Chapala Bay pup!
